Thousands of people make the move to Melbourne each year, looking to make their new home in Australia’s second most populous city and the capitol of Victoria. Many relocate to a Melbourne serviced apartment for a while, coming here for the career opportunities, as the city is a major international commercial hub. Others come to Melbourne for a change of pace, to enjoy the many different features of this vibrant city from its miles of beaches to its many impressive cultural offerings and opportunity for excitement.
One of the first considerations when deciding to relocate to Melbourne is where to live. Depending on the number of people making the move as well as the type of lifestyle one leads, there is a wealth of housing options within the city and its sprawling suburbs. Among these options are typical single-family homes, apartments, dormitories, and other residences geared toward different demographic groups.
More and more, people find themselves choosing to live in one of Melbourne’s many world-class apartment accommodations. Meanwhile, others take up residence in high quality short-term apartments while looking for a more permanent place to call home in the city. These short stay apartments are located throughout the city and its suburbs, from the industrial city center to the outlying Stonnington and Boroondara municipalities.
Many people prefer to stay in these serviced apartments because they accommodate the new Melbourne resident, often coming fully furnished and stocked with amenities. A large percentage of the Melbourne short stay apartments are not only fully furnished, but also include stocked kitchens, cable television, internet access, laundry facilities, and more. Home-style surroundings such as these facilitate a move to Melbourne as new city dwellers are spared the inconvenience of having to provide their own furniture or other extra services. Some serviced apartment complexes also include an on-site gym and pool, making the residence an even more fully inclusive housing option.
One apt example of Melbourne’s serviced apartments are the Living Corporate apartments, which each include all of the aforementioned amenities plus additional cable television channels and exceptionally spacious rooms in its one and two-bedroom units. New residents in the city find comfort in this type of accommodation because it is designed to provide all of the things that one would expect from a comfortable home environment. Rather than having to move all of their belongings or bear the cost of brand new furnishings and appliances, these short stay apartments take care of all necessities and then some.
Serviced apartments in Melbourne are often geared toward the corporate and his or her colleagues, as they provide the comforts of home while away on business trips to bustling city. Other executives either choose these convenient residences as full time homes, while some stay in corporate apartments during the interim before finding a more permanent residence in Melbourne.
Regardless of one’s reason for moving to this vibrant metropolis, wealth of accommodations is available to welcome urban newcomers.

When Melbourne was founded 170 years ago, the founders, right near where our Melbourne serviced apartments sit, declared that this would be a place for a village. At what once was a city of humble beginnings, it is now a place populated by over 3 million people and the accommodations are a plenty.
Melbourne is also known as Australia’s place of intellect and arts. This is where all of the continent’s major events are held and the place to go for the traveler. This is a place of hidden treasures and delights to please both the extreme traveler as well as offering the many contrasts you would expect from a place of such vast places to offer to any pallet. Melbourne also offers some of the best hole in the wall uniqueness.
When you go to visit Melbourne, the best way to approach this city is to know where you are going to stay. It does not matter if you are on a corporate business trip or just a getaway – Melbourne hosts a central business district that you will want to place yourself right in the center of. The two places you will want to either visit or stay at if you are into the nightlife of the Hollywood type atmosphere are going to be Toorak or South Yarra. If you are looking for more affordable places to stay that still gives you plenty of access to the most popular pubs with music, but a more luxurious beachside place to stay, you will want to choose St. Kilda.
Starting with the Central business district, Melbourne is a city by the bay that does not always feel like a bay type city. It offers more of a metropolis type feels unless you are right on the sea or river. In fact, most people do not even realize they are in the center of the Yarra River until they are standing on a bridge and see the water taxi. From an architectural aspect, you will see old architecture mixed with the new. There is an aquarium that sits next to an 80 year old tramline. Until recently, this was home to the Rialto, which was known as the tallest building in that hemisphere and it towers over some of the oldest churches. In contrast to the newness, there are Internet connection booths that are placed right next to horse troughs.
Melbourne’s favorite sport venue is on the eastern fringe of the city that is surrounded by a park and close to the Cricket Ground and it is known as the Hilton on the Park.
Depending who you speak to, right over the Yarra is the newly developed Southbank and you will find the jewel in the crown known as the Crown Entertainment Complex which houses the Crown Towers.
Traveling down the St. Kilda seaside you will get the feel of all that is available to you and just about anything that you would want at your disposal is there. Some people say it has a grungy feel to it and then others say that it is very earthy feeling. There are over 200 shops and restaurant a stone’s throw away from each other. So needless to say, if you cannot find it there, chances are, you are not going to find it, whatever it is you might be looking for.
If you are in South Yarrah or Toorak this is where you are going to find the best shopping and dining experience if you are into the high-class lifestyle feel. There are a number of short stay apartments in this area as well as some fully furnished apartments in Melbourne.
It is safe to say that staying within the Central district you are going to be able to find any accommodations to fit your lifestyle, budget and reason for visiting Melbourne.

Melbourne is a city with an intensely vibrant and diverse cosmopolitan culture, and when you need to get out of your Melbourne short stay apartment. It has a bewildering variety of things to do and places to go to. Since it is a melting point of different cultures, the ultimate product of such cultural assimilation turns out to be very enriching as an experience. On a very broad level, here are some of the places that you should have a look at while you are in Melbourne.
The Colonial Tramcar Restaurant is one of the most popular sights in Melbourne. It is the world’s first traveling car restaurant in the world. The tramcar moves though the city while the people in it dine to their heart’s content. The restaurant boasts of an eclectic selection of both wines and food. The tram was reconverted in 1927. No wonder it has won many National Tourism Awards.
The Melbourne Aquarium is located on the banks of the Yarra River. It consists of a 2.2 million liter tank which is filled with sharks, stingrays, fish and turtles as well. There are different saltwater marine species and freshwater species as well. There are different habitats like mangroves, coral atolls, billabongs and rock pools as well.
The Victorian Arts Centre is on St. Kilda Road. This is the main venue for important programmes like the Australian Ballet and Australian Opera and other important cultural programmes. This includes the Melbourne Concert Hall, the arts Complex and the National Gallery of Victoria.
The State Library of Victoria is located on Swanston Street and was built in stages, starting from the year of 1854. It has a classical revival façade.
Then there is the Princes Theatre on Spring Street. It was designed by William Pitt, one of the most prominent architects of Australia in 1886. It is a very elaborately designed ornate building. The Princess Theatre has hosted some of the most prolific of theatre and opera related events. The building was revamped in the end of the 1980s.
Another must see not far from our Melbourne Serviced Apartments is the Old Treasury Building and Gold Treasury Museum. This was built in 1858 and was the city’s first building built on the lines of the Italian Renaissance. The architect of this building was J.J Clark who designed it when he was only 19 years of age.
And of course, for all cricket freaks exists the world famous Melbourne Cricket Ground. This is located on Jolimont Terrace. It is a familiar name for all cricket mad people all over the world. It is home to the Olympic Museum and the Australian Gallery of Sport as well. It has a wonderful collection of cricketing memorabilia to match its reputation as well.

There are many bars, all catering to a wide cross section of people with varied preferences and budgets. The clubs in the city have a wide variety of music playing, like trance, rock and roll, house, name it and you have it. These are ideal for dancing the night (and your blues) away. The very prominent players among the clubs include Revolver, Heat, Spy Lounge, Inflation, etc. if you like slightly warmer and smaller place that keep a low profile with a lesser crowd count then places like Honky Tonks, Cherry’s, Bambu, Purple Sneakers and so on. All these places have live DJs and often free drinks for specified timings each day.
For live music too, there are no dearth of choices. From rock, to punk, grunge, or classical, Melbourne has it all. Bands like Coldplay and U2 usually perform in venues like Melbourne Park. Are you one of those types who like to go off the beaten track, far away from your Melbourne serviced apartment, and do things that are completely non-touristy? Are the usually packaged sightseeing tours not for you? If so, then here is a list of some rather quirky and unconventional activities that you can do while you are in the city. Doing these will actually give you a flavor of the local culture and more importantly you will get into the very heart of the city and see what it is like instead of just looking at it from the surface, just like any other normal tourist would do.
Have you ever been to a nightclub and enviously eyed the sensuous moves of the gorgeous dancers there? It is time for you to come out of the green monster mode and start taking pole dancing dance classes in both Melbourne and Mornington Peninsular. Not only is it fun, all that exercise keeps you healthy as well!
Melbourne has numerous art galleries and studios scattered all over the city. So why not go on Art and Design walks and uncover gems of artistry which you had never noticed before. If you want to try your hand out at being one, then enroll yourself in this one day workshop which shows the participants how to experiment and create art with color. This is aimed at unleashing the raw creative potential in students who are absolute novices at it.
Make your own resin jewelry by enrolling in this three hour jewelry making workshop. You will be shown how to make unique jewelry like bangles and rings. Now this does sound like a great option for a DIY-er.
Have you always wanted to be a musician and thought that your musical activities would never extend beyond the bathroom? Take heart and involve yourself in this group interactive drumming workshop for twenty people. This is a combination of African, Latin as well as Middle Eastern rhythms. This acts as a great stress buster and is also great fun!
You must have often watched those baristas conjure up wicked looking coffees and wondered about the magic behind it all. If you really want to know the tricks behind the magic and have other people go “wow”, then join the Barista Basics Course in Melbourne right now. You will learn all the tips of the trade from the best in the business and of course also learn how to make fabulous coffee on the way? So why don’t you wake up and smell the coffee?
Thus as you might have noticed are not the usual camera wielding run-of-the-mill tourist stuff that you would do, but it is crazy fun all the same! Enjoy staying for a while in a Melbourne short stay apartment and experience everything the city has to offer!

Despite being a metropolitan city, not far from the best Melbourne serviced apartments, Melbourne has its fair share of parks, gardens and sanctuaries which are dotted all over the city. They are all very popular tourist destinations and provide a much needed breather from the hectic urban lives that people usually lead. There are many green patches all over the city that do their small bits in preserving the varied and exotic wildlife that Australia has.
The Parliament Gardens are located in the heart of Melbourne and also house the beautiful St. Peter’s Church. It stretches across the Spring and Nicholson Streets and has a modern fountain as well. The Queen Victoria gardens are very aptly names as it houses memorials to both Queen Victoria and King Edward VII. The special feature of this garden is that it has a floral clock which has been constructed using over 7000 different types of plants. It not only displays what all clocks are supposed to do, tell time, that is, but also relates a recording about the history of the gardens in the city. The royal Botanical Gardens are located in Birdwood Avenue and were designed by W.R Guilfoyle who was also the curator and director of the gardens from 1873 to 1910. The park covers a huge expanse of land, bordering over 100 acres and within the boundaries is contained over 12000 species of native and other types of plants, lush rolling lawns, and lakes with ducks and swans. There is also a guided tour called the Aboriginal Heritage Walk, which is even conducted by an Aboriginal interpreter who narrates the local history of the people of Melbourne. There is no entry fee here.
Another stop if you are on a Melbourne garden tour is the Carlton Gardens, near Victoria Street. This park is styled after a 19th century English garden and has artificial lakes and flowerbeds all within forty acres of land. Another viable tourist destination is the Royal Melbourne Zoological gardens in Elliott Avenue in Parkville. This garden houses a vital portion of wildlife including a large collection of exotic and native animals, birds and so on. There is also the St. Kilda Botanic Gardens in Blessington Street. This garden was first established in 1859.
Other stops include the Woodlands Historic Park, just outside Melbourne Airport. Popular attractions include a homestead from the 184os, a walking trek up Gellibrand Hill and a natural reserve as well. For those who are interested in geology and the likes, a visit to Organ Pipes National Park is essential. It is named so because this park has many walking trails for the adventurers and also curiously shaped formations of basalt rock in the shape of organ pipes. Also there is the Rosette Rock, basalt rock shaped like wheel spokes and also the Tessellated Pavement.
Thus these places are an integral part of the city to visit from your short stay apartment in Melbourne and provide a safe refuge far from the madding crowd of city life. With their green surroundings amidst nature, thy are the havens that anyone would want to visit and take refuge in, for a short while.

As one goes through the city, only a short stroll from the Serviced Apartments Melbourne likes the best, one can see signs of Melbourne’s colonial past indelibly etched in the buildings that still remain as a relic of the olden times. There are many mansions and estates which have survived the onslaught of time up to this present day.
The Como Historic House and Garden is one of these examples that I was just talking about. It is a mansion hailing from the colonial past which Melbourne has experienced and dates back to 1847. It covers approximately five acres of land and is situated strategically alongside the Yarra River. Como is an architectural hybrid since it is the symbol of confluence of different styles of architecture. These are the Australian Regency and the Italianate styles of architecture. It is located on Cnr Williams Road and Lechlade Avenue on the South Yarra.
Rippon Lea Estate is one of the most magnificent gardens in the city of Melbourne. This is the last garden in the entire Australian continent that was a privately owned estate in the nineteenth century. The address to this romantic destination is 192 Hotham Street, Elsternwick.
Labassa is a mansion which was built during the 1800s and finally completed in 1890. It is styled after the French Renaissance type of architecture. Therefore it is obvious that Labassa is very glamorously decorated with intricate interiors as well. This is located at 2 Manor Grove in Caulfield.
Schwerkolt Cottage is found alongside the Mullum Mullum Creek, in Deep Creek Road, Mitcham. It is a beautifully crafted stone cottage which is surrounded by beautiful and lush gardens.
The Melbourne Town Hall is another essential stop on your itinerary if you like historical sights and buildings. This was erected in the nineteenth century and has an extremely eventful political, social and cultural significance that lurks behind the façade. The address is 190 Swanston Street, in case you plan to make the Melbourne Town Hall a part of your tour through the city.
Another lovely sight awaits you at La Trobe’s Cottage. This is a pre-constructed dwelling that traveled with the very first Lieutenant Governor of Australia who was called Charles La Trobe when he came to the continent in 1839. The best part about La Trobe’s Cottage is that it still retains part of the original interior décor from that time.
The Flinders Street Station is another viable option for a visit. It is the central nerve point of the train system of Melbourne with all trains either having their destination or source station at this point. It has a beautiful dome and clocks which have a historical significance as well. Flinders Street Station is located on Flinders Street and St. Kilda Road.
Manchester Unity Building is a building that is styled after the Gothic style of architecture and was erected in the 1930s. At one point of time it was one of the tallest buildings in the city. Contrary to popular misconceptions, shopping malls are not a product of the ultra modern 21st century. Melbourne’s oldest shopping mall dates back to 1870. This one is called the Royal Arcade and makes for a very elegant sight indeed.

For all you Japanese food lovers staying in serviced apartments in Melbourne, don’t worry if you think you can’t find any good Japanese-cuisine restaurants. We tell you some great places to find your sushi and other favorite Japanese food to scoff during your Melbourne short stay apartment based vacation!
You must try the Torimatsu Japanese restaurant (situated at 179 King Street), which serves high-quality Japanese food. Their stuff is the taste of tradition itself. They specialize in Japanese style BBQ, and lunch boxes (bento). A traditional BBQ is carried to your table, with your meat, vegetables, or calamari, and you can then cook your own food. This is a big favorite with party groups. Once you get the hang of handling your chopsticks, you’ll appreciate and enjoy this social activity. Regarding food, you can try the All You Can Eat Specials, priced at $30.80 for women, $31.80 for men, and half price for children, after 6 pm. Still not convinced? Pay a visit there, and look at the number of Japanese people who dine at the place! That ought to make you believe their food is truly Japanese! The Torimatsu Japanese restaurant is highly recommended by us.
Another good suggestion is the Japanese Teppanyaki Inn, which you will find at 182 Collins Street. Headed by Chef Noriaki Chiba, it has been around since 1975, and serves up great Teppanyaki dishes! Because of their high quality food, they have attracted a steady but loyal customer base. You can also try the Aburi Sake Bar, situated just above the Torimatsu Restaurant. This is a great Japanese bar, and the location at King Street makes it perfect for all those who would like to catch a few quick drinks after work. Try their sake and Japanese beers – they are hard to come by even in Japan! The food is quite excellent, here you will find some of the best sushi in Melbourne, and some great takoyaki. And if you like music, head to Aburi Sake Bar on Tuesday nights, there’s live Jazz style music!
The Kanda Sushi Noodle Bar is a definite must-try for lunch. Situated at La Trobe Street, they offer a variety of nori rolls, inari and sushi packs, and you must, absolutely must try the Mushroom Kabayaki Roll – which has delighted many vegetarians. You can also go for fried noodles, noodle soups, or rice dishes – try the Fried Kwai Teow, the Seafood Curry Laska, or the Grilled Eel Don – they’re all pretty reasonably prices! With a private court-yard, this place is a must-try.
You can also go to the Robot Sushi and Bar. With a great theme to it, you will find lots of references to modern Japanese pop and anime culture here. The sushi is good-quality, the Japanese snacks go down pretty well with the variety of sakes and beers on offer. This is a great night-spot for those with slightly off-beat taste. Visit it at 13 Bligh Pl, Melbourne 3000. Another unique eating-joint is the Tomodachi (Swanston Street), which is a Sushi Train, offering a grand view of La Trobe Street. With a seating capacity of about 130, the food is great, the wines are fantastic, what more do we need to say?
