5 Kids Activities During A Short Stay In Melbourne

Children’s activities in Melbourne are numerous and inexpensive. During a short stay in Melbourne, give the kids something fun to do! Melbourne’s weather is extremely pleasant most of the time and is therefore suitable for outdoor sports and activities like picnics and bike rides. Even on days when the weather is not very pleasant, there are activities to keep the children occupied. Some of these are discussed as follows:

  1. The Children’s Garden: This part of the Royal Botanical Garden. This is a place of great interest specifically for younger children because of the numerous varieties of plants waiting to be discovered by them. The Garden section allows the children to dig the earth and indulge in their own gardening activities. This garden consists of labyrinths in which children can hide and play, and many different types of landscapes for them to explore. The Children’s garden is ideal for a day out. It is extremely educational, enabling knowledge through fun and discovery.
  2. The Beach: Since Melbourne is situated on Port Philip Bay, it has many beaches, especially along the eastern side of the city. The beaches in Melbourne are perfect for backpacking, and the ones in the suburban parts of Melbourne make for an ideal weekend getaway. There is no danger of waves or high tides since the city is located in the bay. The beaches are perfectly safe for children—enabling swimming and other water sports.
  3. Bike-Riding: The best way to tour the city of Melbourne is on a bike, since it is possible to get to any part of the city on a bike. There are fascinating bike trails for children along the Yarra and the Merri Creek (which branches off the Yarra River at Clifton Hill). There is another great bike trail along the Maribyrnong River in the northwest, and more trails along the eastern side of Melbourne. Bikes are allowed on trains in Melbourne, so even if one-way bike rides are planned, the bikes can be easily brought back on trains.
  4. Ceres: This is a community environment park in Merri Creek, Brunswick. It is a great place for children to explore—with wind pumps, generators, gardens, ponds and chucks. Ceres also has a nursery, a bicycle recycle shed, an adventure playground and a small café serving home-made preparations. A pleasant day trip to Ceres is a welcome break from the drudgery of city life, and provides sufficient scope for relaxation and enjoyment amidst natural surroundings.
  5. Science Museum: The Science Museum is located in Spotswood and is good value for money, especially if the children are to be kept occupied on days where not much else can be done. The most enjoyable way to get there is by a Yarra Ferry, which stops in Williamstown on the way. The museum offers a wide variety of experimental activities, which enables children to learn about Space, Mechanics, light etc. through games and other enjoyable experiments.

Melbourne is considered to be one of the most liveable cities in the world—offering a large number of activities for children, and for the family as a whole. What an opportunity to get out of your Melbourne serviced apartments and show the kids something fun!
